On 1 March, 2022, the 15th Adaptation to the Technical Process (ATP) of Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 (CLP) will enter into force by means of Delegated Regulation (EU) 2020/1182.

XV ATP CLP: WHAT SUBSTANCES ARE INVOLVED

The changes concern the introduction of 37 substances with harmonised classification and the amendment of 21 existing entries in Annex VI of CLP.

In particular, we bring to your attention the following news, which we believe to be of major importance:

  • Geraniol (CAS 106-24-1): following the opinion of 14 September 2018, an harmonised classification, as a category 1 skin sensitiser (H317), has been assigned;
  • L-(+)-lactic acid (CAS 79-33-4): introduced the new classification as skin corrosive category 1C (H314) and causes severe eye damage category 1 (H318). Additional hazard statement required on label: EUH071.
  • Nitric acid 70 % (CAS 7697-37-2): The harmonised classification has been replaced by two entries and amended as follows:

  • 2-Butoxyethanol; ethylene glycol-monobutyl ether (CAS 111-76-2): the classification as harmful in contact with skin (H312) was removed and an Acute Toxicity Estimate (oral route: STA = 1200 mg/kg bw) was added.
  • Lead dust; [particle diameter < 1 mm] (CAS 7439-92-1): an environmental classification as H400 and H410 was added.

The Committee proposed the application of the same environmental classification to both massive and powdered forms. However, as many elements and data were still being evaluated, it was decided to add the environmental classification for lead dust only, while the application of the two classes to the massive form was postponed.

WHAT TO DO

We therefore invite you to check the presence of the substances listed in ATP XV for your products and, if necessary, to update your safety data sheet software, which implements the changes automatically.

TEAM Mastery, and in particular the Product Safety department, is available to support companies regarding the update of their documentation or the assessment of the fulfillments that has to be followed.
