TEAM mastery has a deep knowledge in the preparation of Applications for Authorisation (AfA) and represents the first Italian company to have successfully presented to ECHA several Authorisation dossiers.

When a substance is included in Annex XIV (Authorisation list) of the REACH Regulation (EC 1907/2006), the companies involved in the use of this substance have to obtain an Authorisation to continue the use of the substance itself.

The aim of the Authorisation process is to lead the companies to the substitution of the Annex XIV substance thanks to the period granted for continuing the use. This time allows the companies to move towards the substitution with limited impact on the economy of the company.

ECHA encourages the companies to present single Authorisation dossiers with respect to consortium dossier since the individual applications better reflect the specific situation of every single company in terms of risk management, development of alternatives and socio-economic impact of the substitution.

The process for applying for Authorisation is long and challenging and should be started as soon as a substance is added to Annex XIV or at least two years before the sunset date or the expiry of a previous authorisation obtained.

The preparation of an AfA involves several figures:

  • Environmental, process and monitoring experts
  • Regulatory specialists that can prepare the AfA and discuss with the authorities
  • Experts in exposure scenarios that can evaluate deeply the risk involved in the use of the substance
  • Experts in the evaluation of possible alternatives
  • Experts of the economic impact that all the process can have on the company

All the AfAs presented to date by TEAM mastery obtained the Authorisation. The substance included in Annex XIV for which the AfA process have been requested are:

  • Trichloroethylene
  • Sodium Chromate
  • Potassium Chromate
  • Sodium Dichromate
  • Chromium Trioxide
  • Octylphenol ethoxylated
