Does your product contain flame retardants? ECHA is taking important actions you need to be aware of.

In the Regulatory Strategy for Flame Retardants, ECHA identifies aromatic brominated flame retardants as candidates for a restriction under REACH regulation, in view of their properties as persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT) or very persistent and very bioaccumulative (vPvB) substances.

Before the application of a potential restriction a preliminary work is required to better assess the waste stage and the availability of suitable alternatives. Moreover, for many aliphatic brominated and some organophosphorus-based flame retardants, more data is needed to determine if a restriction is necessary. ECHA suggests reassessing the situation for those groups in 2025.
